Anthology on Finnish Media Art
The First Century of Finnish Media Art, the anthology is the first comprehensive presentation of Finnish media art. The anthology is divided in thematic sections and a timeline following the development of media art from early inventors to today’s expanded, multidisciplinary field. The types of media art on display include video, light and sound art, electronic literature, digital and interactive art, and bioart. The work has been edited by Heidi Tikka (editor-in-chief), Petri Kuljuntaus, Tytti Rantanen and Minna Tarkka.
The group of editors – Petri Kuljuntausta, Tytti Rantanen, Minna Tarkka and Heidi Tikka – worked closely with the MEHI editorial board and over 30 researchers (the anthology workgroup in Finnish), art critics and artists contributing articles to the book. The chronological timeline captures significant events and phenomena in the field. The richly illustrated book presents the works of more than 150 artists. There are 264 pages in the anthology. You can buy the book on PARVS Publishing Company Online Bookstore and from bookstores by the price of 45 euros.
Within the MEHI project consortium, the Bioart Society coordinated the process of the book. The Kone Foundation was the main financier of the MEHI – Media Art History in Finland Project. The anthology was published by PARVS Publishing Company in autumn 2023.
